The keyboard of the computer is the one part that is put through a lot of user abuse. From bringing down the whole two fists at moments of frustration to feeding coffee to the thirsty keyboard, this device has seen it all. For a device that is so integral to the user experience, it is probably the one component that has not undergone any dramatic reincarnations since its birth. The few variations that exist like the natural keyboard design from Microsoft and Logitech do not add much character to the part.

We need fret no more. Optimus is soon launching a new keyboard in which every induvidual key has a small LCD display on it. And the best part is you can choose the images that will appear on the keys. Talk about customizability. We will soon see the same keyboard with unique personalities.

Here it is momentarily deceiving with the traditional key prints.

Think of a tweak where pressing the CAPS LOCK button changes the LCD image of characters from Upper case to lower case or vice-versa.

And just in case it is one of those days when you feel like typing in Russian.

Photoshop icons on the keyboard for improved morphing productivity.

And this is for the gamer in you. The Quake profile.

Now for the tragic part. You have to pay $1500 for one of these beauties. I can only imagine how many will be sold in India where the majority build entire computers for less than half the price of this keyboard. Hopefully like all other computer hardware this one also hits the road to obseletion in a short time and the prices come tumbling down.
