Tron Legacy is a 3D Sci-Fi movie sequel to the 1982 movie Tron. The film is based in a cyberworld like inside a matrix hopefully providing as exciting a content. The trailer is a lot of eye-candy and while I love the visuals, I wonder if it is a bit cheesy. Worth a watch though. The movie starrs Jeff Bridges (IronMonger from Ironman)

Moser Baer is not a very common name. The company is the world' second largest manufacturer of optical media like CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs. What may surprise many is that Moser Baer is an Indian company and is trying its hands in other products.

Moser Baer has been for some time now in the Home Video business and is a publisher of optical media with regional and foreign language films. The best part of the Moser Baer deal is the pricing. A lot of movies are priced from Rs.50 (for regional movies) to upto Rs.400 for foreign films on DVDs and CDs.

The movie ranges are pretty slick and they have a massive collection of award winning foreign films (Chinese, Korean, French etc). You will also find a lot of Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu and other regional language movies - old and new.

What's best is that you can order your disc online and have it delivered at home. With prices this low, there is not really a need to break your wallet to own a copy of your favorite movie.

It is quite a well established fact that a lot of Indian movies are cheesy. However, off late, there has been an increasing trend of good realistic movies being thrown out by new directors and actors (Anurag Kashyap comes to mind). This is good news for a lot of movie fanatics like me. 

However, on the other hand, one simply has to look at the fact that Akshay Kumar is the highest tax-paying actor in the country. This clearly establishes that cheesy movies have a big market.

I was at the cinemas the other day and came across this Kannada movie film poster. The name of the movie is Junglee and in a certain way the characters tend to be true to the name of the film. As long as movies like these are made and people are there to watch it, the chances for quality movies to make money are far off (except for the occasional hits). And there is only so much filmmakers can make films without the reward of money.  



Note in this poster, shades on the eyes of the fake Shahrukh Khan and another pair hanging on the T-Shirt. Why are Indian film makers obsessed with making dumb-ass cheesy movies with standard formula of romance and dance around trees and costumes no one wears in reality? To top it off, the poster says all about the quality of the movie.

And then I found another movie poster.



This is as slutty (Is that the right word? I am out of words) as movie posters get. An item of clothing 3 mm thick separates romance from cunnilingus in this poster. Why don't they just bare it all and avoid the hypocrisy?  

Now check this other poster.



A movie starring an Indian Pirate and a bald vulture as a side-kick. Once upon a time, Indian rippers had some dignity. The rip off was very subtle. One would be hard pressed to identify copied content. But not anymore. With Indian film makers losing skin and trying to capitalize on the popularity of Hollywood flicks, super-obvious Indian rip-offs are all the rage now.  I don't know Telugu (or is it Kannada?), but I suspect this movie is called Pirate of the Andra Pradesh (or is it Karnataka?)

And finally here is a poster that is the product of the average of all the other non-plagiarized Indian movie posters.



When nothing is left to be copied or when enough copying has been done, this is the standard template for most Indian films - Hero, Heroine, Eye blinding clothing and a white jacket in hot weather. Where are all the creative people in this country?

I love the movies. I remember the time when we had to stand in long queues to get tickets to watch them. Now, we have the net, yeah! Online booking changed my life, no queues no worries, just amazing movie watching experience.

Direct booking on cinema sites is pretty neat. I've never had issues with booking online for IMAX, INOX and Funcinemas. We now have a new player in the market for your ticketing solutions Kyazoonga.com. Their tag line "puts u before the q". I currently book my tickets on Bookmyshow.com

I'll be meeting my co-author over the weekend and we are definitely going for a movie together. So I put these two sites to the test.

Time to load

Kyazoonga : Took a lot of time to load, must be all the new traffic post their tv campaign.

Bookmyshow : Took no time to appear. About 8 seconds (Yes I timed it).

Design

Kyazoonga : New site, it took me some time to get used to it. I can't say its confusing but the layout could've been a lot better. The zig-zags and the arrows are a little passe. The bright yellow arrow in the background, the arrows pointing in all direction is quite jarring. Logo's of people running towards the arrow reminds me of a movie booking rat race, and online booking is no longer a rat race, so where are these guys running? The homepage is like a portal to go to the event of your choice. With the load time being an issue (atleast on my system) this step was uneccessary. They really should take you directly to the site versus having you go through an extra page.

Small things matter and the drop downs have a hotch potch of English, Hindi and other regional language movies. The good thing about this site is the social networking aspect which Bookmyshow doesn't have. I personally am not into social networking but I can see a large fan following where we are bringing together two very fun activities - social networking and movies.

Bookmyshow : Slightly more bias towards this design for the ease of use. You type the url in the browser and bam you are on the page where you can directly transact or view the result you've been looking for. The designer clearly knew what the majority of his traffic would do on his site. The design is non-intrusive yet fun. The drop down is well organized into movies by language.

Money

Kyazoonga : For watching Wolverine at the Cinemax here it will cost me Rs233.09, Rs.3.09 more than Bookmyshow. Seriously? OMG I can't believe that I will be paying more. Rs30.90 more for 10 tickets. So the conveyance charge here is greater. Why? Moreover you can't view the seats you'll be getting unless you want to change it. What was really funny was my default seats were the worst seats in the house. Front row seats - dude this isn't the play-offs.

Bookmyshow: For watching Wolverine at the movies for 2 cost me Rs.230.00, Rs30 being the conveyance charges and plus you get to book your seat.

Watchmen is a graphic novel created by artist Dave Gibbons and written by Alan Moore who also wrote other greats like V for Vendetta and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Watchmen is rated the best graphic novel ever written and is the winner of the Hugo and the Nebula award for science fiction books.

Based in an alternative universe where the USA is in the brink of a nuclear war with the soviet union, Watchmen explores the realistic lives of super heroes who were quite common and legal once upon a time. Tough times have fallen and old time super heroes are being killed. Roarscharch, a masked vigilante who never gave up fighting for justice decides to investigate the deaths and consequently we dive into the world of super heroes, their weakness and character flaws. The book is quite intense and has many layers to its story line.

Director Zack Snyder of 300 fame is to direct the movie version of Watchmen due to release in 2009. Check out the amazing trailer.
